A production about an interior designed by Sebastian Herkner in the ONE FORTY WEST tower in Frankfurt. The shot that explains the room runs low across a round table of dark marble: glasses, plates and a curved bench in soft focus, a mouth-blown lamp and the window wall behind. Design photography works through material transitions and details rather than wide establishing shots.
The room supplies the second subject itself: a wall carrying a graphic pattern of half-circles and quarters in gray and sand, the bench in burgundy, a floor-to-ceiling window and pale wood underfoot. In a room designed to that degree the job is not to fit everything in, but to decide which two things belong in one frame.
The low camera position has a second reason: polished marble reflects. Shot from above the slab shows its veining; shot low it shows the glasses a second time — darker, softer, directly beneath the originals.
No added light appears in the frame. There is daylight from the window wall and the lamps with their visible filaments, and together they make the mixture the room was furnished for. Light a scene like this evenly with flash and the plates come out clean while the evening is gone.
