An animated announcement trailer for the summer open air on 6 July 2019 in Groß-Gerau with Vincent Gross. The teaser works with shapes, color fields and an inset video window rather than filmed material — the tool of choice when the event has not happened yet and still has to be promoted.
Animation is the answer to a scheduling problem. An event that has not happened yet supplies no material — so surfaces, shapes and type are built, and the only moving image sits in an inset window.
That window is where the teaser becomes credible. Without moving material it stays an advertisement; with a single clip from an earlier appearance it becomes a promise about what is coming.
The remaining elements are pure information: date, place, name. In an animated teaser they are the subject rather than the caption — they stand large, they stand long enough, and they are the reason somebody searches for it afterwards.
