A trailer cut from somebody else’s material is editing rather than shooting. You get what was filmed and have to build an order out of it that creates expectation — without showing the resolution the film later depends on.
The cinema trailer format sets the rules: setup, turn, title. What stands in the middle decides the length, and what stands at the end is the reason somebody buys a ticket.
With a documentary an extra consideration comes on top. The people in the material agreed to appear in a film, not in an advertisement — a trailer may sharpen, but it must not create a statement the film does not make.
