A film of a company party has a simple measure of success — it works if colleagues can find themselves in it, and for that breadth of coverage counts for more than composition.
At a company party, photographing a speech from behind is the frame with the greatest use. It shows the host and the audience in one picture, and it answers the question nobody asks in January but everybody wants to know: how many were there?
Pink and violet along the ceiling edges are a given of the event lighting. Colors like that settle on white shirts, and the white balance only decides whether you keep the audience or the atmosphere — not both.
The measure for a film like this is simple. It works when colleagues find themselves in it — which means more faces than stage, more conversations than agenda items.
