A music video is a short film that converts a piece of music into a film. They are primarily hired by record companies to promote the sale of this work, which has been designed and produced by a film production company specializing in music videos and is to be shown on music television or the Internet. In general, they have the life of music and are used as the sole source of sound. Most music videos are part of an artist’s performance, primarily when performing works.
It was filmed in a club and with the light that hangs there: a drummer in half-darkness, a blue beam from the side across cymbal and shoulder, the warm points of the ceiling lamps in the background.
A music video on a small budget happens where light and setting already exist. What cannot be built is found — and a club supplies both for free, but demands a camera that can work with very little light.
The limit of that way of working is control. You cannot rearrange a stage, and whatever glows red glows red — so the visual idea has to come out of the place rather than from a storyboard written somewhere else.
