Coverage of the Honda World Skill Contest Europe, the European championship for Honda service technicians. The contest runs in a workshop setting and is judged on precision and time — the pictures record the tasks, the entrants and the scoring. What came out of it is a documentation of the competition.
Part of the documentation is what is being worked on: a cockpit in black and red, a steering wheel with a carbon spar, the center console, seats with red stitching, and sunlight running across the dashboard.
An interior is the harder frame on a car. There is no position outside it, everything is close and oblique at once, and every surface reflects either the sky or the photographer — the work happens through the open door and with the light that comes from there.
For a competition of service technicians that is exactly the link. What is judged is work on cars like this, and a frame that shows what it is about turns documentation of an examination into a story.
