A Halloween teaser filmed on a rooftop above Frankfurt. A clown figure in a tattered costume stands in the wind with a red balloon, the lit skyline behind her in the dark. A teaser runs before the event and has to build expectation out of a single idea — here a silhouette, a balloon and the place behind them are enough.
A silhouette on a roof is the simplest construction a teaser can have, and the most effective. There are only two planes — figure and city — and both are read in a second.
The red balloon is the only point of color in a picture of blue and black. That is what it is for: in a teaser running on small screens you need one place for the eye to catch before the text appears.
Filming on a roof at night means exposing with whatever the city gives. The skyline is the light source, the figure stays dark, and the wind decides whether the balloon stays in frame.
