The summer lounge of the German Sports Press Ball. The format is half reception, half exhibition: a photo wall of partner logos with two models in floor-length gowns in front of it, a Spielbank Wiesbaden cabinet built in with a roulette table, a cigar roller at his block in front of a travel backdrop, and the "Legend of Sport" board. At a VIP format the guest list is part of the product, and the pictures have to serve representation and discretion at the same time.
At a format like this the photo wall is a subject with rules of its own. It is covered in logos and every one of them paid to be there — a frame in which a head half covers a brand is useless to the organizer, even if it is otherwise the best of the evening.
So a wall like this is worked flat and centered: camera at the height of the faces, square to the surface, so the rows of marks do not tilt and stay the same size left and right.
The rest of the evening needs the opposite. A roulette table, a cigar roller and a board of honor are scenes with depth and little light — that is where the pictures come from that tell this reception apart from any other.
