2023 hosted the prestigious Women’s International Trophy wine tasting competition, an event highlighting the expertise and influence of women in the wine industry. This competition, which included wines from different regions of the world, was judged exclusively by a jury of leading female wine connoisseurs and sommeliers. The Women’s International Trophy 2023 aimed to celebrate the diversity and quality of wines while strengthening the role of women in wine production and evaluation. Wines that were characterized by exceptional taste, aroma and production methods received special recognition. The event provided a platform for the exchange of knowledge and experiences among female wine professionals and helped raise awareness of the importance of women in the wine industry.
Before the competition the hall looks like an examination room: white rows of tables with jury numbers, glasses, water, notepaper and a black spittoon at every place, the flags of the participating countries under the roof above.
That empty state belongs at the beginning of a film like this. It shows the order in which the tasting will happen — and once a hundred people are seated, none of that order is visible any more.
A tasting is otherwise a subject without movement. What carries it on film are hands, glasses, notes and faces at the moment of decision, and the camera has to be close enough to see that without disturbing the procedure.
