Music video production for “Distance” by Nazb. A music video built on a calm track lives on long takes, and long takes forgive nothing untidy in camera movement or light. Produced for the release.
The frame that sets the tone of the track is rain: a figure in a black coat under a striped umbrella, caught walking, a jetty running into the lake behind and the mountains in haze. The umbrella is the only patch of color.
Rain is the right condition for a quiet track and the most awkward one for the equipment. Wet surfaces mirror, the contrast is flat, and every shot has to be built so the camera stays dry without the frame ever mentioning it.
That turns the long take into arithmetic. With no cut, the movement inside the frame has to be right: walking speed, crop and the point where the figure leaves the frame are fixed in advance and cannot be rescued afterwards.
