The music video for "Setarah" by Sediq Yakub. Shot against white with the whole band in frame: the singer at the microphone, a tabla player to the left, drums to the right. The white ground is a deliberate decision — with no environment, the performance has to carry everything, and a video for an international audience has to work without any understanding of the language.
Shooting against white means answering for every detail. There is no background for anything to disappear into: cables, stands, creases in the backdrop and the edges of the surface itself have to be clean, or they are all anyone sees.
White also demands a second set of light. A surface that is meant to read as white is lit in its own right — brighter than the band in front of it, but not so bright that it spills into the faces and eats the contrast.
What remains is arrangement. Tabla left, drums right, the singer front and center: a layout that reads without a single cut and in which every musician keeps their place while the camera holds still.
