During our stay in Santorini we spent 4 nights in Kivotos Santorini. It was our first time on the island and we weren't quite sure what to expect from the whole trip. Sure, we thought there must be some nice spots and the overall geography of the island is pretty interesting, but we were a bit scared of average hotels for crowds of tourists. Kivotos looked very individual to us, with an attractive location for exploring the island. That's why we tried it and want to share our experience with you.
Arrival to Kivotos Santorini
After arriving at the Santorini airport, we took a taxi to the hotel. Since the island is very small, we reached the hotel after only 15 minutes and could start our stay in 25 degrees weather.
Arrival and check-in in Kivotos Santorini
We were able to get our keys immediately without waiting. The staff was well prepared and after a short time even brought the bags to our room. One offer we didn't take up was a tour of the entire property.
About the hotel
Kivotos Santorini is an exclusive boutique hotel that is quite unique among the other local hotels that have sprung up in recent years. With its black and modern exterior walls, it stands out from the rest of the landscape and offers a beautiful view.
The hotel has a total of 4 suites and 3 villas. With this rather small size, we did not meet too many people on the property and could always enjoy a relaxed atmosphere. As the place only opened in 2019, everything felt like it had never been used before!
A highlight is certainly the incredible view from the hotel terrace on which the restaurant is located. From there you can see the whole island, be it the southernmost point of Santorini (Akrotiri lighthouse) or the very north of Oia.
Our Executive Suite on Kivoto's Santorini
We spent a total of 4 nights in the Executive Suite, which is spread over 2 floors. On the ground floor there is a balcony next to the entrance where we enjoyed a daily breakfast while watching the sunrise. On the ground floor, we were surprised to find a well-equipped living room in the suite with Sonos speakers that could be used via an iPad.
As we further explored the suite, we found the bathroom to be an inviting place, with a rain shower and colored LEDs built into the wall that invited a thorough body wash. The upper floor, the bedroom and another balcony with private loungers and a breathtaking view of the sea and the sunset made us not want to leave the suite for a while. This was our favorite spot, especially at night, as there was also a jacuzzi on the balcony.
The terrace and the food at Kivotos Santorini
Every morning breakfast was brought to our room, which included a huge selection of fruits, fresh pastries and delicious sweets, accompanied by juices, coffee and tea. We could even choose our own food preferences - and they made it just for us! This individual breakfast was particularly pleasant from the terrace.
When we preferred to eat in a more public setting, the hotel's restaurant and pool area on a lovely terrace was the place to turn. After a while we found that dinner in the restaurant at sunset was an important highlight of the whole trip. The fabulous food, prepared by one of the emerging star chefs in Greece, coupled with the unique atmosphere made an authentic experience that we will not soon forget.
Closing remarks
All in all, we really enjoyed our stay in Kivotos. The modern hotel, combined with the first-class service and the unique location of the caldera, offers everything you could want for a relaxing and unforgettable stay on Santorini.
