The 2022 Women’s International Trophy, a wine, beer and spirits competition judged entirely by women. The film shows tasting as a craft — concentration, notes, debate — and turns it into something the competition can use to promote the following year.
A beach flag against the light is a title frame on purpose. The sun stands behind it, the fabric glows from within, and the mark stays legible while the hall behind falls into shadow — place, occasion and partners in one shot.
Tasting is an activity you can barely see: smell, taste, note, spit out again. Making a film of it means working with hands and faces in close-up, because the movement itself is too small to carry a wide shot.
That the film will advertise the competition the following year changes the selection. What then has to be shown is not only the result but the procedure: anonymity of the samples, the number of judges, the course of a round.
