The 2022 Frankfurt International Trophy at the Gesellschaftshaus Palmengarten. The view from the gallery shows what it is: a historic hall under chandeliers, the flags of the competing nations along the walls, and beneath them long rows of white tables with hundreds of judges. Making a tasting work on film means showing the scale — the individual act happens in the glass, the event happens in the room.
The position on the gallery is the decision this picture rests on. From above the rows of tables arrange themselves into a grid, the flags stand as a band of color on the wall, and the number of judges becomes the statement.
A historic hall brings its own light: chandeliers, tall windows, a bright ceiling. Both together — warm artificial light and cool daylight — meet in the same frame, and the color decision goes in favor of the hall.
In the details it gets tight after that. Where hundreds of people sit at tables there is no route for a tripod and no position for a second camera; the work happens at the end of the rows, from the aisle, on the move.
