A music video shoot in Alicante on the Spanish Mediterranean coast. The opening is an aerial over the bay: turquoise shallows above the sand, the headland with the harbor, and the line of towers along the beach behind. Shooting on the Mediterranean brings hard midday light that is barely usable for moving image — you work at either end of the day, and the aerials give everything in between its frame.
Turquoise shallows over sand is a subject that only exists from the air. From the beach it is a color in the background; from above it becomes a surface with drawing in it, from which the depth of the water can be read.
Hard midday light is the rule on a coast like this and the worst case for faces. So the schedule migrates: aerials and water around noon, everything with people at either end of the day.
A shoot abroad also has no reserve. Whatever is not done on the first day is more expensive on the second, and the third usually belongs to the journey home — so the order of the subjects is part of the budget rather than of the direction.
