Customer Service of the Year 2022 — Event photography

The award ceremony “Gewählt zum Kundenservice des Jahres” 2022, held in an industrial hall with lounge seating rather than a ballroom. On stage the host and the winners with the seal in their hands, the partners' logo wall behind them. Plus the ice buckets on the round tables and the audience waving small flags.
The pictures go to the winning companies and are used there for a year — which is why the seal has to be legible in every handover. That sounds trivial and it is the most common failure at award ceremonies: the trophy is held at an angle, somebody stands in front of it, an arm covers the year. Fail to check that in the viewfinder and you deliver a handsome group photograph the client cannot use.
The logo wall behind is just as important. In the stage frame the partners' brands sit to left and right, and the crop is chosen so that none of the logos is cut. A half-cropped sponsor logo is the one mistake somebody is certain to notice.
The hall itself is dark and washed in red, the stage stands in white spotlight. Several stops lie between them. The exposure goes on the stage, because that is where the faces and the seal are — the hall becoming a red surface in the process is not a loss, it describes the evening.
The details from the tables, the ice buckets and the flags, are what nobody else brings back. A report on an award ceremony does not consist only of people on a stage, and an organizer needs frames that tell the evening without a single company appearing in them.
