The VDMA’s 2020 general meeting. The picture says more about the conditions of that year than any caption: the association’s logo on a display panel, and behind it a hall where the tables stand far apart with a single person at each. A general meeting is formal and procedural — the coverage has to record the constitutional business as well as the exchange around the edges, of which that year there was almost none.
The frame is made from behind the panel carrying the association’s mark and looks into the hall: single tables set far apart, a stage with a blue screen, the speaker on the video wall, the trusses of the congress hall above.
The mark is sharp and the hall is not. For association work that is the right order — the event belongs to the association, and a picture that ends up in a report has to name it before it describes the mood.
The rest is procedure. A general assembly has fixed items that must be documented: the board at its table, the speaker at the lectern, the vote in the hall. Notice at the end that one of them is missing and it cannot be restaged.
