The TOP 100 meeting of the Hörbiger Group, an international leadership gathering at Frankfurt's Westhafen. The set follows the format rather than the stage: a speaker standing in the middle of the audience with a microphone, somebody celebrating a figure on the wall, handwritten root-cause analysis on brown wrapping paper, the presentation on screen, the dinner, and finally the honorees with bouquets. In between, the harbor in evening light — the place the participants will remember having been.
At an internal event the client is also the audience, and that changes the selection. Pictures for a company report have to show that work was done. So the screen with the analysis, the flipchart and the annotated wrapping paper stand on equal footing with the people — not as trim, but because they are the evidence.
The speaker is deliberately not photographed on a stage but in the room, with the screen beside him. A presenter at a lectern is a conference; one standing between the tables pointing at a number is a working meeting. The format decides the standpoint.
The screen itself is the most common difficulty at corporate events. It is several stops brighter than the room, and once it blows out the picture loses its content. So the exposure goes on the display and the person in front of it is brought back out of shadow — the other way round would not work.
Confidentiality is not an afterthought here. An internal analysis carries figures that are not meant for a website. Which frame may go where is settled before the job rather than after — at corporate events that is the part of the work which never appears in a portfolio.
