Chinaski Tagesbar — Restaurant and food photography

Restaurant and food photography at the Chinaski day bar in Frankfurt: dishes, coffee and guests. The Chinaski Tagesbar in Frankfurt — the same house as in…

The Chinaski Tagesbar in Frankfurt — the same house as in the evening but a different business, and the set shows exactly that. Turquoise chairs on the pavement under a wall of flowers, the lettering in the window, cakes and pastries on marble, bowls and salads from above in strong color, two guests with pancakes and cappuccino in front of the painted wall, a couple at an outside table by the junction. Daylight, bright surfaces, a different menu: a second visual world out of the same room.

The frame from the street shows both at once: turquoise metal chairs on the pavement under the awning, a façade of flowers above them, and through the open front pink velvet stools, brass tables and a blossom tree over the bar.

An open front is an opportunity and an exposure trap. Inside is darker than outside, and if the interior sinks the picture advertises a pavement. So the exposure keeps detail indoors and lets the paving run to its limit.

It is photographed before opening. A place with every chair where it belongs shows the idea of the house; once service starts it shows the guests — both are right, but only one of them can be planned.
