Bucherer Fine Jewellery – Grand Opening
High-society event coverage at Bucherer. Event photography: Frankfurt am Main. The opening of Bucherer Fine Jewellery. Inside, the pieces: a sapphire ring…
The opening of Bucherer Fine Jewellery. Outside stands a champagne-colored Bentley in "Bentley meets Bucherer Fine Jewellery" livery — the partnership is part of the evening and belongs in the pictures. Inside, the pieces: a sapphire ring guests hold up to each other's hands, a sapphire and pavé diamond pendant on a model, a bracelet set with emerald and sapphire baguettes. Jewelry under event lighting is a balancing act — the stones want directed light while the room lives on the warm, diffuse light of the evening.
The shop is bright and beige, lit by ceiling spots and illuminated cabinets — flattering for the room and difficult for stones. A sapphire only shows its color when directed light reaches it; under diffuse light alone it goes dark gray. So for each piece the hand or the head is turned until one of the sources already in the room falls into the stone as a highlight. A flash on a stand would have lost the room, and on an opening night the room is half the story.
The set therefore works on two scales. Close: the sapphire and pavé diamond pendant against skin, the bracelet of emerald and sapphire baguettes on a wrist, the ring two guests hold up to look at together. Wide: the seated guests a model walks past, the host with a microphone, where people are looking. A piece of jewelry without the evening is a catalog picture; the evening without the pieces is just a party.
The frame outside the door was made at another time of day and in another light: the champagne-colored Bentley in its livery, daylight, autumn leaves on the pavement, the shop's lettering above it. It is the only picture that shows where all of this takes place.
