The atrium is taken from above, through the arch of the upper gallery. Below, red armchairs stand in a ring around a compass rose set into the floor; two large steel rings hang over them as light fittings, pale timber balustrades run round, the reception desk sits to the right, the glazed entrance front behind.
The arch in the foreground is not incidental, it is the reason for the viewpoint: it frames the view and gives the picture the depth an atrium never has from the ground. The reddish terrazzo throws the light of the window front back as long bands — and that is the drawing that holds the whole room together.
