A good photograph does not automatically work in every medium. A website often needs wide landscape frames with room for text. Social media favors portrait and square crops. Ads, menus and presentations ask for something else again.
The later use decides things on set
On productions for hospitality, events and brands, that later use is therefore taken into account during the shoot itself. Important elements must not sit too close to the edge. Some subjects are deliberately shot from several viewpoints and in several aspect ratios rather than cropped hard afterwards.
One table scene, several pictures in their own right
For the social media package at the Druckwasserwerk, a larger table scene was built so that several independent crops could come out of it. Cocktail shoots at the Chinaski produced versions for the menu, the website and mobile channels; the bar pictures follow the same logic.
What makes a set of pictures flexible
A flexible set of pictures does not come from taking as many similar frames as possible. It comes from a planned mix of overview, detail, portrait, landscape and quiet space.
Everything that goes beyond the exposure itself is under additional services.
