Traveling alone can be an enormously inspiring and stimulating experience. You'll discover the world, make new friends, and maybe learn a thing or two about yourself. I've put together the best destinations for such a trip. If you feel like adventure, prepare your backpack for an unforgettable experience!

1. Vietnam

Vietnam

Vietnam is a very popular destination for solo travelers and Hoi An in particular is a central place to start your Vietnam trip. The city is a melting pot of cultures and architecture. Hoi, with its long history as a trading port and as a place of traditional production of quality clothing at affordable prices, attracts people from all over the world. Here you can buy everything from t-shirts and shorts to suits and dresses, or even have the outfit of your choice made to measure at a low cost. As a means of transport, I recommend simply walking or cycling and leaving the car behind. This makes it much easier to find new friends on the go.

2. Cuba

cuba

A Caribbean island with lots of tropical flair, vintage cars and cocktails, Cuba is one of the best places to travel solo. In Havana you can dance salsa with the locals in the evenings, enjoy the sunset with rhythmic sounds or ride horses through tobacco plantations. You should be prepared to have limited internet at times, but for that sacrifice you get a very authentic taste of local life - and indeed, not being able to access social media can be relaxing at times.

3. Japan

Japan

If you want to get rid of stress or your everyday life, Japan is ideal for your solo trip. Japan is often referred to as the best travel destination in the world because of its landscape, infrastructure, polite population and not least because of its high quality cuisine. When you are there, visiting an onsen can be a great experience. These are hot spring bathhouses located in traditional locations and are definitely worth a visit!

4. Iceland

iceland

A country that depends on tourism and trade, Iceland is a perfect destination for solo travelers. In Iceland, most people speak excellent English and you can easily get around the small towns and surrounding nature. Many people from all over the world come here for an all-natural mountain experience with breathtaking views that only Iceland can offer. Whale watching is one of the attractions for tourists. Between September and April you can even see the Northern Lights, making Iceland a unique place to travel alone and to reflect on yourself too.

5. Croatia

croatia

Always a good place to visit, Croatia is one of the safest countries in Europe. Even if you are traveling alone, you don't have to worry. More importantly, Croatia has a beautiful coastline and the surrounding sea with the island archipelago is unique. You will certainly not get bored during your solo journey, because there is a lot to discover between interesting city visits and magical hiking tours.
