Weingut – Georg Breuer — Photo production
Photography at the Georg Breuer winery: the vineyards and the cellar. The tasting room at the Georg Breuer estate. It is an exhibition space with wine in it…
The tasting room at the Georg Breuer estate. It is an exhibition space with wine in it: fair-faced concrete, a monolithic counter, art on white walls under spotlights, a canted timber rack holding the bottles and a tasting table with turquoise chairs. Shot in the light the room has, because that light is the concept. An estate that builds its shop like a gallery wants to be photographed like one — with space left around the things.
The sales room is a gallery. Four works in different formats hang on a white partition, the name GEORG BREUER in green lettering on the wall to the right; a long counter in gray-stained oak runs across the whole picture, with half a dozen bottles on it, a decanter, a dark vase and a bunch of dried branches.
The ceiling is fair-faced concrete with a black track, and the spots are aimed at the wall rather than at the pictures — you can see their cones as soft half-circles. Those are the problem and the solution at once: they give the white surface a modelling it would not otherwise have, and the viewpoint has to be chosen so they do not collide with the frames.
