What was photographed is a room built around its window wall: a curved outer wall with floor-length curtains, the city in the valley behind it, a bare concrete pillar in the room, a bench at the foot of the bed, a wine-red armchair and a desk of dark marble.
A room with a view is always an exposure problem. Outside is several stops brighter than inside, and a blown-out window sells exactly what the guest is not paying for. The answer is the hour: shortly before blue hour, inside and outside come close enough together.
The rest is order. In a hotel room the centimeter decides — a crease in the duvet, a chair standing askew, a remote control on the nightstand. A room picture is not photographed first, it is arranged first.
