JEC FORUM DACH — Event photography
International congress photography for JEC Forum DACH. Event photography: Frankfurt am Main. The view from above is the most important frame of the day.
The JEC Forum DACH on 23 and 24 November 2021 in Frankfurt am Main, the composite industry's professional event. The set starts at the signage and the floor plan, moves through the exhibition hall seen from the gallery — white booths in rows on blue carpet under the glass roof — and ends on the stage with its white armchairs set for the panel.
The view from above is the most important frame of the day. From the aisle a trade fair is a corridor: two booth walls to the left, two to the right, no overview. From the gallery the same hall becomes an ordered grid of stands you can count, with the glass façade as a bright edge behind it. Only that picture shows that something was built here, and it is the picture an organizer uses the following year to sell space.
The lectern carries the event, the place and the date in print. A frame in which that is legible costs thirty seconds and turns the file into its own caption — by the second congress for the same client in the same building, that is the difference between a sorted archive and a guessed one.
Composite materials are gray, matt and technical, the hall is concrete and glass, the suits are dark. The only color the event brings with it is the brand's green. So it is taken along every time: in the signage, in the stage set, and in the three-dimensional letters of #JECDACH standing on a table. In a hall like this the brand color is not decoration, it is what holds the pictures together as a series.
And one honesty that belongs to a B2B format: between sessions the aisles are empty. What gets photographed is the twenty minutes in which people are talking at the stands, without pretending the day looked like that throughout. A congress runs on appointments, not on crowds, and every exhibitor recognizes pictures that claim otherwise.
