What Large Brand Productions Taught Me

Published

The better known a brand is, the more a clear sequence matters. Logo, colors and the intended visual language are usually settled. At the same time an event or a production happens in a real situation that cannot be fully controlled.

Preparation makes decisions easier

What I have learned is that preparation above all makes decisions easier. Four questions are settled before the day itself:

  • Which subjects are indispensable?
  • Which formats will be needed afterwards?
  • Who may be photographed, and where?
  • Which content stays confidential?

A set rather than a pile of good frames

Once those are answered, more attention is left during the production for the moments nobody planned.

A consistent selection matters just as much. A brand needs more than a lot of good single frames; it needs a set that works together. Color, perspective and the change of subject have to add up to one impression.

Scale counts for less than precision

So large brand productions shaped my work less through their scale than through precision: in the preparation, during the shoot, and in choosing what is actually published in the end.

How a production like that starts here is described under inquiries.
