The larger the group, the less time there is for decisions made on the spot. Executives, contest participants or whole teams are often together for only a few minutes.
The line-up is settled before the people arrive
At the Honda European Skills Contest, around eighty people had to be positioned in front of a banner. For an international leadership meeting, the arrangement was prepared in front of a glass facade. Camera position, rows and background were fixed before anyone turned up.
One instruction everybody hears
Clear communication is what decides it. Everyone has to hear the instruction, shorter people must not disappear, and badges or bags should be tidied away where possible. At the same time several quick frames are needed, because in a large group somebody is almost always blinking or looking aside.
The shutter is the last step
Pressing the shutter is only the final step. A group photo that works comes out of preparation, time management and an arrangement that can be built in a couple of minutes.
