Food and brand photography for Grill N Fry. The set stages smash burgers, sweet potato fries and canned drinks against the restaurant’s own wall mural — "Good Food Good Mood" as a backdrop, which makes the pictures recognizable as this place without building a set at all. Alongside it, a frame from the griddle itself: the patty at the moment it is pressed down, steam and spatter included. Grilled food is perishable as a subject; the surface is only right while it is hot.
A wall mural as a background saves half the setup and costs you control. It is where it is, it is as bright as the restaurant lights it, and the height of the table in front decides how much of it stays in frame.
Canned drinks are the most thankless part of a food set. They reflect every source as a stripe, their lettering has to stay legible, and together those two things fix the angle before the plate is even placed.
At the griddle only time counts. A patty looks right for three seconds — glossy, steaming, with a seared edge — and the camera has to be standing there rather than looking for the spot when the moment comes.
