The Rheingau holds landscape, winegrowing, hospitality and tourism in a small space. For a photo production that means a single subject rarely tells the whole story.
Houses, kitchens and the people behind them
At the Rebenhaus in Rüdesheim, terrace, guest rooms, rows of vines and the Rhine valley belong together. The Kräuterwirte connect regional cooking with the people behind several hospitality businesses. Further hotel and restaurant projects show interiors, dishes and events along the Rhine.
The spatial connection carries the series
What matters most is that spatial connection. An aerial frame can explain how a house sits in the vineyard. A laid table under vines brings landscape and dining into the same scene. Close-ups of the food add the craft and the regional produce to that overview.
Not a postcard
So my picture of the Rheingau does not come out of one postcard view. It is assembled from places, people, cooking and landscape.
