Concert photography is a specialty of photojournalism. Taking photos at concerts in different locations places special demands on the photographer and his equipment. For each location (festival, open-air stage, hall, music club, music bar, etc.) equipment and technology must be adapted. In addition to constantly changing lighting conditions, sometimes inadequate light, fast-paced events on the stage and extremely noisy working conditions, you also have to deal with time pressure, as only the first three songs can be photographed at larger concerts.
One frame in the series is taken from the side of the stage, into the light. A microphone stand stands in the foreground as a black silhouette, a singer in a dress behind it with her arms open, a guitarist on a riser to the left, a second one backlit to the right, the drum kit between them. The whole picture sits in a single orange coming from a lamp behind the band and filling the haze.
Stage light is the opponent and the subject at once. It changes on the beat rather than on the camera's schedule, it has no color a white balance could rescue, and it almost always comes from behind. Waiting for the faces to be lit means going home without pictures — you photograph the silhouettes and the gesture.
