A series at a quarry lake in the last light of the day. The model in an orange swimsuit lies in the shallows on the sand, stands waist-deep against the sun, throws her arms open on the slope. Sand, water and sunlight are almost the same tone here — the whole set runs in one color family, with the water working as a large fill from below. Conditions like that last about thirty minutes.
The frame in the shallows shows the place most clearly: the figure lies in the water at the edge, the head touching wet sand, and the rings spreading from the body pull the sun forward as a chain of highlights.
The water is not scenery here but the second fill. A sheet of water throws low light back from underneath and fills exactly the shadows a sunset otherwise makes deep — which is why even the turned-away side is not black.
What the light does not give, the running order does: everything dry first, the water last. Wet is not a decision that can be taken back.
